High-performance Workspace
Trend Group was appointed to design and build a new reception and boardroom for Merchants, a leading customer management partner specialising in business process outsourcing. The objective was to create a refined and welcoming environment that elevates the experience for both visitors and employees.
Set within a historic building with strong architectural character, the project sought to acknowledge the heritage of the space while embracing expansive views. Central to the brief was capturing Merchants’ belief that people matter, ensuring the environment feels warm, inclusive and conducive to meaningful connection.
Supportive Environment
The concept was shaped around the idea of the NEST, representing a supportive and nurturing environment that evokes a sense of belonging. Referred to as sisekhaya, meaning we are home, this narrative informs both the reception and boardroom, encouraging positive engagement between clients and team members.
A vibrant and layered aesthetic draws inspiration from local culture through the use of expressive colour and pattern. Merchants commissioned large scale artworks from artist THATDAMNVANDAL, enriching the interiors while strengthening the connection with local creative talent.

The completed reception and boardroom reflect Merchants’ dedication to creating an energetic and people focused workplace. By aligning the design with the organisation’s values and cultural influences, the space balances visual impact with functionality and embodies the character of the Merchants team.
