TOMORROW'S OFFICE

Today

THE FUTURE
WORKSPACE

Great office design is both challenging and exciting. The design need to be tailored to your brand’s personality, but also the requirements of the inner workings of your company.
Function is king, and form is its queen. Designs need to be smart and optimise the space fully, especially with complexities like COVID regulations
COVID OFFICE SPACE DESIGN
A modern office is no longer bound by a 9-5 work-day cycle but rather cater for efficiency and support the accelerated shift towards progressive ways of working.
Next generation offices will have a stronger focus on an employee’s wellbeing, with safety measures such as social distancing and flexible working routines.

FUTURE WORKPLACES

Having staff come back to work requires a re-entry strategy that’s built on a foundation; the five Cs.

OUR OFFICE MODELS

We have identified three office models that are set to reshape the workplace
The Hybrid Model

A mix of office-based and remote working

The Hub & Spoke Model

Companies have a core office and multiple satellite offices. These can be regional private spaces, coworking locations or serviced office space etc.

The Distributed Model

Employees are able to work anywhere and everywhere, depending on their needs. These models include coworking spaces, coffee shops, home working, and core office space in some cases.

A place dedicated to work activity
Today, employees are yearning for physical engagement with their colleagues, whether it’s an informal chat or more structured collaboration sessions.
Remote working has also highlighted the inadequacies of home-office setups and the need for spaces designed adequately for work.
A sense of community
From catch-ups in the café over a coffee to sketching out ideas on a whiteboard, people are craving human interaction more than ever, and the workplace is no different.

While it’s easy to manage a list of tasks when working remotely, employees are missing out on the benefits of physical collaboration and the common sense of purpose it fosters. This intrinsic human experience of physically working together has and will always drive new ideas and enable complex problem-solving.

There will always be a need for spaces designed specifically to foster the creativity, agility and innovation that organisations need to be genuinely productive and grow.

Designing Workplace 2.0
The post-pandemic office is a very different place. Trends are accelerating towards smart building solutions, wellbeing, sustainability-focused design and enlivening company culture.

Where and how your people work is more important than ever. A workspace designed to specifically support your staff, with flexibility, creativity, and wellbeing built-in by design, will ultimately generate high productivity and more profit for your business.

A SUCCESSFUL WORKPLACE

We have identified three office models that are set to reshape the workplace

01

Health & Safety

Many businesses were already moving beyond the traditional office model before COVID-19, but this evolution has been fast-tracked and now applies to everyone. Returning to work effectively requires this evolution to be the environment and fit for your teams.

02

Flexibility

The workplace of the future’s design will need to support a hybrid, hub and spoke, or distributed working model. These new and different working strategies will need to be facilitated through agile working environments and flexible, customisable spaces to give an employee the freedom of choice that has come to define the current ways of working.

03

Wellbeing

COVID-19 has put a spotlight on the importance of supporting wellbeing and mental health at the workplace, and adding wellbeing- focused design elements to every office should be a priority. Sustainable design is an integral part of this. It is also an ethos that will permeate each part of a successful workplace as the world realises the value of sustainable workplace design and construction working.

04

Technology

Digital communication technologies have helped us to collaborate and keep working throughout the most difficult COVID situations. As we return to our offices, these systems will remain crucial. We should also begin to use smart building technologies to optimise our spaces through how our rooms are heated, ventilated and lit, maximising efficiency and measuring how our spaces are used.

05

Culture, Community, Collaboration

Social interaction is the thing we all miss most in our modern way of working. As how and where we want to work continues to evolve, one of the most significant changes the office faces is that it’s no longer just a place with a desk. It has become a destination in itself. After months of focused home-working with limited opportunities for social interaction, a day at the workplace has become an event, a refreshing opportunity to see friends, be inspired, come together, collaborate, and connect.

HOW CAN WE

help

With a combination of flexible and remote workers, the central office hub will be essential to cultivating a sense of collective ownership and shared company mission and providing an environment for organic networking, mentoring, and liaising with clients.

It’s important to consider every stage of change when planning for your eventual return to the workplace – the transition back to the office will look unique for each business.

Still, everyone will experience three core phases:
the Now, the Transition and the Future

3 core phases

During the first phase, many people will still be working from home. Companies will be developing their plan for returning to the office by gathering employee sentiment data and listening closely to the new government guidance.
