Agile Design Office Fit-out
Following the separation of Anglo American’s thermal coal operations, Thungela carries a strong legacy while actively shaping its future. To express this, the company collaborated with Trend Group for their new headquarters. The brief required an agile design for a workplace that could support the existing team while remaining flexible enough to scale as the business grows, allowing the environment to evolve alongside organisational needs. With the brand still taking shape, adaptability became central to the approach, ensuring the space could respond to future growth and developing brand expression while enabling flexible working.
Understated Aesthetic
A carefully considered neutral palette combines rich textures, warm timber finishes and accents of greenery. This understated aesthetic creates a refined base that allows Thungela’s brand identity to evolve over time, ensuring the workspace remains adaptable. At the centre of the layout is a canteen designed as an active social hub, encouraging connection across departments and supporting collaboration in an informal setting. A highlight is the cantilevered meeting room, which references the company’s industrial roots while expressing a forward looking mindset, inspiring conversation and creative thinking.
Future-Ready Workspace
The Thungela corporate headquarters offer far more than standard workstations, creating a workspace that supports flexibility and adaptability for both present needs and future growth. Designed and built by Trend Group, the office embodies Thungela’s dynamic identity, blending respect for the company’s mining sector history with a forward-looking vision. The resulting environment inspires and energises, providing a setting that encourages productivity and positions Thungela for ongoing success.
