Evolving Workstyles for Local Branch
Leading mining and metals company, South 32, partnered with Trend Group to refurbish its Johannesburg office, following the success of its Singapore workplace. For this project, the company tailored its global workplace strategy to local requirements, consolidating three floors into a single 2400 sqm floorplate. The goal was to deliver a flexible, efficient, and comfortable environment that accommodates evolving workstyles.
Design That Inspires and Connects
The reception, bathed in natural light and featuring statement furniture, creates a welcoming environment that embodies the brand. The South 32 Office Design by Design Paper makes a positive impression on both visitors and employees.
Adjacent to reception, a multifunctional breakout space includes USB points, a wellness room, a parents’ room, and a variety of meeting rooms, all designed to foster collaboration and productivity. Timber finishes and soft lighting create a warm, inviting ambiance, complemented by biophilic elements that promote well-being and efficiency. Quirky wall art and diverse seating in meeting pods add personality, encouraging creativity and teamwork while providing a playful contrast to the minimalist design.

Built for Collaboration and Comfort
The refurbishment creates a modern, welcoming and flexible workplace that harmoniously balances efficiency, collaboration, and employee well-being. The reception and breakout areas offer a warm, inviting first impression, while multifunctional spaces are designed to foster teamwork and interaction. Biophilic design elements enhance productivity and support well-being, and quirky artwork alongside diverse seating brings personality to the minimalist aesthetic. Altogether, the South 32 corporate headquarters reflect their global standards while responding thoughtfully to its local context.
